A number of foreign cycling teams are likely to take part in Lahore to Sahiwal International Cycle race to be held on March 23 as a part of Pakistan Day celebrations. “Invitations have been extended to India, Bangladesh, Syria and Afghanistan and we will be bearing the entire expense of the foreign teams by sending them air tickets and providing boarding and lodging facilities,” said Idris Haider Khawaja, secretary general of his own faction of the Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) here on Friday. “The 154-kilometre long event will be participated by the provincial teams and the affiliated units of the PCF,” he added. He said each foreign team could field two riders and one official in the race that would further boost the efforts of promoting cycling in the country. “Punjab Chief Minister Mian Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif will be the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony and the winner will get a cash award of Rs 100,000,” he said.
